What is Trezor Bridge?

Trezor Bridge is a lightweight software application that enables communication between your Trezor hardware wallet and your web browser. It acts as a secure intermediary, allowing web-based cryptocurrency applications to interact with your Trezor device while maintaining the highest security standards.

Unlike browser extensions that can be vulnerable to attacks, Trezor Bridge runs as a standalone application on your computer. This architecture provides an additional layer of security by isolating the communication channel from browser-based threats.

The Bridge is designed to be completely transparent to users. Once installed, it runs silently in the background, automatically starting when your system boots. When you connect your Trezor device and navigate to a compatible web application, the Bridge automatically facilitates the secure connection.

Trezor Bridge is compatible with all Trezor hardware wallet models, including Trezor One, Trezor Model T, and Trezor Safe 3. It supports all major operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux distributions.

How It Works

1

Bridge Installation

You download and install Trezor Bridge once on your computer. The installation is quick and straightforward, taking less than a minute to complete. The Bridge automatically configures itself to start with your system.

2

Device Connection

When you connect your Trezor hardware wallet via USB, the Bridge immediately detects it and establishes a secure communication channel. The device is now ready to interact with web applications.

3

Secure Communication

Web applications send requests to the Bridge, which forwards them to your Trezor device using encrypted protocols. Your device processes these requests and sends back responses through the Bridge, ensuring end-to-end security.

4

Transaction Confirmation

All transactions and sensitive operations must be physically confirmed on your Trezor device. The Bridge never has access to your private keys or the ability to execute transactions without your explicit approval.

Installation Guide

Windows Installation

macOS Installation

1

Download the TrezorBridge-2.0.31.dmg disk image for macOS.

Troubleshooting

Bridge Not Detecting Device

Solution:

  • Try a different USB port, preferably one directly on your computer (not a hub)
  • Use a different USB cable—some cables are charge-only and don't support data transfer
  • Restart Trezor Bridge from your system tray or menu bar
  • On Windows, check Device Manager to ensure drivers are installed correctly
  • Try restarting your computer with the device connected

Browser Not Connecting to Bridge

Solution:

  • Refresh the webpage and check if the connection establishes
  • Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again
  • Ensure Trezor Bridge is running—check your system tray or menu bar
  • Try a different browser to rule out browser-specific issues
  • Disable browser extensions that might interfere with USB communication
  • Check your firewall settings to ensure Bridge can communicate

Installation Fails or Bridge Won't Start

Solution:

  • Completely uninstall the current version and download a fresh installer
  • On Windows, run the installer as Administrator (right-click → Run as administrator)
  • On macOS, check Security & Privacy settings and allow the application
  • On Linux, ensure you have the necessary permissions and dependencies installed
  • Temporarily disable antivirus software during installation
  • Check system logs for specific error messages

Device Keeps Disconnecting

Solution:

  • Check your USB cable for damage—replace if necessary
  • Avoid using USB extension cables or hubs
  • Update your Trezor device firmware to the latest version
  • On laptops, ensure power-saving settings aren't disabling USB ports
  • Try connecting to a different computer to isolate the issue

Linux udev Rules Issues

Solution:

Manually configure udev rules if automatic setup failed:

sudo curl https://data.trezor.io/udev/51-trezor.rules -o /etc/udev/rules.d/51-trezor.rules
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
sudo udevadm trigger

Then disconnect and reconnect your device.
